Franklin ends March with record number of calls

Members ended March with running 37 calls.  Six of those came on 3/31 itself, making this a busier month than usual.  Not only are members currently taking their free time to conduct fish frys on Friday and working at the fire school on the 27th and 28th - we answered 37 calls in our "spare" time.

No Thanks to Senator Ed Bowman from Hancock County for his continued NEGATIVE support to the volunteer firefighter Length of Service Program (LOSAP PROGRAM).  It is nice to know that these 37 responses that our members took their time to answer - will do nothing for us in the future.  The problem isn't that we mind going to help our community - that is what we voluntarily do.  It is the fact that volunteer fire departments continue to get busier, have increased demands and less man power and funding to get all of this done.

Station 7 runs full response to Pennsylvania 02/20/2009

Shortly before 10pm on Friday evening, Franklin was requested by Washington Control (PA) for a full response to a reported barn on fire right across the PA state line.  Engine 76 and Tanker 79 were the first to arrive on scene followed shortly by Engine 77.  Engine 76 crews pulled pre-connects to begin knockdown while Tanker 79 and Engine 77 worked on establishing a water supply.  Due to the size and intensity of the fire, crews used both hydrant water along with establishing a dump tank.  The Brooke County Tanker Task Force was called by Chief 70 (Palmer) and established a non-stop water supply through tanker shuttle.  Fire ground operations were ran by Assistant Chief Stuck (72).  Sadly, due to the intense fire, over twenty cattle were killed by the fire.  Franklin crews arrived on scene for four hours battling cold conditions during the fire.

On Saturday, crews were called back out by Station 35 Avella and Station 30 West Middletown to assist with removal of hay bales from the barn.
